On friday, 27 February 2026 -The Kitui County Minister for Water and Irrigation, Peter G. Nkunda (Centre), today conducted an inspection tour of the newly completed Kasakini Earth Dam in Katutu Village, Kauwi Ward, Kitui West Sub-County. The project is among 15 earth dams currently being implemented by the Ministry across the country to enhance water access for communities.
Minister Nkunda commended the local community for establishing a dedicated management committee to oversee the project and urged members to safeguard the facility to ensure sustained benefits. He also assured residents that additional gabions will be constructed to minimise siltation and protect the dam from erosion.
The Minister was accompanied by Kauwi Ward MCA Hon. Gabriel Munyao, County Water Director Eng. Kennedy Mutati, Kitui West Water Officer Eng. Marion Kithuku, Kauwi Ward Administrator Solomon Mwendwa, and other county officials.
