The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, on Tuesday participated in a high-level working session convened by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to review progress on youth employment and income creation initiatives across the country.The meeting brought together Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Heads of Government Agencies to assess the impact of the Government’s five-pronged strategy aimed at tackling unemployment among young people.Since September 2022, the Government says the approach has generated hundreds of thousands of opportunities through formal public sector employment, labour-based public works programmes, digital jobs platforms, the blue economy, and support for micro and small enterprises.During the session, ambitious 2026 targets were agreed upon under key flagship programmes:
- Kazi Kwa Ground – Targeting 1 million jobs through housing projects, markets, student accommodation and institutional developments.
- Climate Worx – 300,000 jobs focused on environmental and climate-related initiatives.
- Kazi Mtandaoni and Kazi Majuu – 1 million jobs each through online work and overseas employment opportunities.
- Kazi Baharini – 500,000 jobs within the blue economy sector.
- NYOTA Programme – Continued support for 820,000 youth entrepreneurs.
- Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) – Assistance to 200,000 small-scale business owners.
Speaking during the review, leaders reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding access to dignified work and empowering young Kenyans economically.The initiatives form part of the broader national agenda to boost livelihoods, enhance productivity, and accelerate inclusive economic growth.
