Fresh political tremors are rocking the NARC party after it summoned its minority leadership in the Kitui County Assembly over last year’s leadership changes.
The move, initiated by the party leadership led by Charity Ngilu, is now threatening to spark internal instability ahead of the 2027 General Election, where Ngilu is widely expected to seek re-election as Kitui Governor.
Political observers say how Ngilu manages the unfolding dispute could significantly shape her political fortunes in 2027. With succession politics and regional balance already delicate in Kitui County, any perceived marginalisation of certain regions could fuel tension within the party ranks.
Leaders and residents from Mwingi have reportedly expressed concern over the possibility of losing key leadership positions in the County Assembly. Some local voices have warned that protests could erupt if the minority leadership is removed from representatives associated with the region.
Those summoned include Minority Leader Hon. Jeremiah Mutua, Hon. Gabriel Mutunga Munyao, Hon. Muthama Kieti and Kalamba Musau.
The summoned MCAs have maintained they will honour the party’s directive, but the development sets the stage for a potentially high-stakes political showdown within NARC party .
As 2027 draws closer, the handling of internal party disputes is expected to play a critical role in shaping alliances, voter confidence, and the broader political landscape in Kitui County.
