The County Government of Kitui County has initiated the development of a comprehensive Productivity Improvement Strategy aimed at enhancing service delivery and maximizing resource utilization.
Kitui Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani on February 12, 2026, officially inaugurated a two-day workshop in Mutomo focused on developing the strategy. The workshop is being spearheaded by officers from the National Productivity and Competitiveness Centre.
The initiative seeks to scale up productivity measures adopted by the county during the 2024/2025 financial year and mainstream them across all government operations. Through the County Productivity Metrics and the County Productivity Index, the county will gain evidence-based insights on how efficiently resources are being used to deliver services and development outcomes.
Speaking during the launch, Deputy Governor Kanani emphasized that productivity has become a measurable driver of effective service delivery and value for money in public administration.
โProductivity is no longer an abstract concept; it is now a measurable driver of service delivery, value for money, and development outcomes,โ he said.
The strategy will be aligned with the County Integrated Development Plan, the performance contracting framework, and the national productivity agenda. It is expected to produce practical and implementable actions to ensure productivity improvement becomes embedded in daily operations within the county public service.
Under the leadership of Governor Julius Malombe, the county government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening productivity improvement initiatives through capacity building, innovation, accountability, and teamwork.
Upon completion of the workshop, Kitui Countyโs public service is expected to shift from merely measuring productivity to actively improving it by addressing performance gaps, enhancing efficiency, and translating productivity gains into tangible development outcomes for residents.
