Kitui Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua has called for swift justice and heightened political awareness among residents while attending a series of burial ceremonies across the county over the weekend.
Speaking during the burial of the late Teacher Peninah Kitondo Musili at Kavililo Village in Nzauni Location, Kyome Thaana Ward, the Senator revealed that preliminary investigations into her death indicate it was a case of murder. He urged security agencies to act decisively, stating that all suspects linked to the incident must be arrested and behind bars by Monday.
Wambua emphasized the need for justice for the slain teacher and reassured residents that he would closely follow the matter to ensure accountability and safety within the community.
Later, while attending two separate burial ceremonies in Township Ward, Kitui Central Constituency, and Nguutani Ward in Mwingi West, the Senator shifted focus to national politics and community mobilization. He urged members of the Kamba community to register as voters ahead of the next general elections, stressing the importance of political participation.
He noted that voter registration would ensure the communityโs voice and numbers count in determining future leadership and development priorities.
The Senator also took aim at President William Rutoโs administration, criticizing what he termed as declining standards in the health and education sectors. According to Wambua, many Kenyan parents are struggling to access quality healthcare and education, prompting him to label Ruto a โone-termโ president.
On local economic concerns, Wambua said Kitui professionals have backed his push against illegal sand harvesting in the county. He accused local authorities of lacking transparency regarding the amount of sand being harvested and the revenue generated from the trade.
The Senator vowed to confront cartels involved in the illegal sand business, promising to continue the fight until transparency and accountability are achieved for the benefit of Kitui residents.
