Kitui County FKF League clubs from Zone A, Zone C and the Women’s League were celebrated for their outstanding performances during the 2024/2025 season at a colourful awards gala held in Kitui Town. The event brought together sports stakeholders, county officials and football enthusiasts to recognize excellence and promote youth development through sports.
Mulango A FC from Mulango Ward was crowned the Zone A winner, while AIC Kiini FC of Nzambani Ward emerged champions of Zone C. In the Women’s category, Isaa Queens FC from Mutha Ward took top honours after an impressive season, earning praise for their discipline and consistency on the pitch.
Speaking during the ceremony, Kitui County Minister for Sports Ms Phoebe Mutemi emphasized the county government’s commitment to partnering with sports federations and other stakeholders to uplift young people through sports. She noted that football plays a key role in talent nurturing, job creation and keeping youths engaged in positive activities.
The Minister also cautioned young people against substance abuse, warning that drugs and alcohol can derail talent, limit opportunities and hinder personal growth. She encouraged players to remain disciplined, focused and committed both on and off the field.
Looking ahead, Ms Mutemi pledged to work closely with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and other partners to enhance talent development, improve exposure and create more opportunities for local players to progress to higher levels of competition.
The event was attended by Chief of Staff Khalid Ashur, Chief Officer for Sports Nason Kang’alya, Deputy Director Charles Wambua, Assistant Director Pascal Mwanzia, FKF officials, NLP representatives, as well as team managers and coaches, all of whom lauded the progress of grassroots football in Kitui County.
