Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Nguna has intensified rural electrification efforts across the constituency, with a major focus on expanding last-mile connectivity to underserved villages. The initiative, popularly branded under the “Kazi Tu” development agenda, aims to improve livelihoods through enhanced access to electricity.

Currently, Mwingi West is implementing an electrification programme that targets 2,118 homesteads, with works already underway in several areas. The projects are part of a broader plan to roll out 39 electrification projects across the constituency before June 2026, signaling a significant boost to infrastructure development.

In the latest phase, MP Nguna escalated lighting works in Thokoa Village, where contractors have commenced on-site installations. The project is expected to benefit households that have for years relied on alternative and costly sources of energy.

Among the priority areas in Thokoa Village set to be connected include all homesteads around Kwa Sammy Thyaka residence, as well as the Musili Muvengei area and its surrounding neighborhoods. Additional zones within the village are also earmarked for connection as the works progress.

Beyond new connections, the MP noted that the programme also involves repairing and replacing nonfunctional transformers across Mwingi West, a move aimed at stabilizing power supply and ensuring reliability for already connected households and institutions.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, saying access to electricity will spur small businesses, improve security through lighting, and enhance access to information and essential services. Local leaders have described the project as a timely intervention that aligns with the constituency’s long-term development goals.

MP Nguna reiterated his commitment to service delivery over politics, emphasizing that development remains his top priority. “Wendi Wenyu Watho Wakwa,” he stated, reaffirming the administration’s development-first mantra under the slogans #KaziKwanza, #SiasaBaadaye, #MrMaendeleo, and #CNNWorks.
