The Ministry of Culture,Gender,Youth,ICTSports and social services under the County Executive Committee Member Madam Phoebe Mutemi has welcomed the establishment of the Muselele Healing Farm in Kitui Rural, saying it will offer a vital refuge for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). Mutemi, who has been at the forefront of championing gender issues across the county, noted that the facility will greatly strengthen ongoing efforts to mainstream GBV response and support systems in Kitui.

The Healing Farm, a one-billion-shilling project funded by development partners in collaboration with the County Government of Kitui, is set to serve victims of gender-based violence from across Africa. The project is spearheaded by the Urgent Action Fundโ€“Africa together with international partners. According to CECM Mutemi, the sanctuary will provide a safe space for survivors to rest, recover, and rebuild their lives.

Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, who visited the facility in Muselele on Monday, praised the initiative as a landmark investment that will transform both social welfare and local development. He said the project is not only a win for victims of GBV but also an opportunity for Kitui to take a leading role in advocating for womenโ€™s rights and human dignity at a continental level.

The Governor further noted that the Healing Farm will stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and boosting business opportunities, tourism, and research within the region. He emphasized that the county government remains committed to strengthening infrastructure, healthcare services, and GBV response mechanisms to ensure survivors receive comprehensive support.
