Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo has issued a formal demand letter to Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai over alleged defamatory statements made against him.
According to the demand letter, the ambassador accuses the MP of making claims that he describes as false, malicious and intended to injure his reputation both locally and internationally.
The letter, sent through his legal representatives, states that the statements have caused serious damage to Ambassador Kiema’s personal standing, professional integrity and public image, given his long service in public office and diplomacy.
Ambassador Kiema is demanding an immediate and unconditional retraction of the alleged statements, accompanied by a public apology to be issued through the same platforms where the claims were made.
The demand letter further instructs MP Mbai to cease and desist from making any further statements concerning the ambassador that could be deemed defamatory.
Failure to comply with the demands within the specified period, the letter warns, will result in the matter being escalated to court, with the ambassador seeking legal redress including damages and costs.
The development adds a new dimension to the political tensions in Kitui County, with the unfolding legal dispute expected to attract significant public and political attention in the coming days.
