Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has reported an alleged violent incident involving Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai, terming it a direct threat to his life. In a press statement issued on Sunday, Owino said the incident occurred at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

According to the MP, he had gone for a private meeting with a senior clergyman on Saturday afternoon after releasing his security detail for the Christmas holidays. As he was leaving the restaurant, Owino says he greeted a group seated at a nearby table, among them MCA Robert Alai. He alleges that Alai accused him of being behind social media attacks on his wife, claims Owino strongly denied.

Owino stated that the situation quickly escalated, with the MCA allegedly becoming aggressive, pushing him and drawing a pistol, which he used to strike him on the chest and jaw in full view of other patrons. He said efforts by those present briefly calmed the situation, but moments later the MCA allegedly poured a glass of water on his face, causing alarm among onlookers.

The MP said he chose to leave the restaurant to avoid further confrontation and immediately reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station. He described the incident as an unprovoked attack linked to his political stance and called on security agencies to conduct thorough investigations and take appropriate legal action.

Owino further claimed that the incident fits into what he described as a sustained pattern of threats and harassment against him, recalling previous confrontations, including an alleged attack by goons during the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s father in Siaya. He emphasized that while he remains calm, he will firmly defend his life, dignity, and the rule of law.
