The Kitui County Governor’s Cup has registered an impressive 99 per cent turnout, with 246 men’s teams drawn from 247 villages across the county taking part in the grassroots football tournament. The overwhelming participation highlights the growing enthusiasm for sports at the community level and reflects the success of county-led initiatives aimed at youth engagement.
The tournament, organized by the Kitui County Government through the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, is playing a key role in actively engaging young people in sports. By providing structured and competitive platforms, the Governor’s Cup is helping keep youths productively occupied and away from harmful substances, while promoting healthy lifestyles and positive social interaction.
Currently progressing from the village level to the ward level, the competition continues to attract teams from different villages, fostering unity and friendly rivalry. Beyond football, the Governor’s Cup has emerged as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, talent development, and community cohesion, offering young people an opportunity to showcase their skills as the county comes together to celebrate sports and nurture future stars.
