Questions Emerge Over Kalonzo’s Readiness for Presidency
A section of Kamba opinion leaders and political observers have raised concerns over Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s preparedness to mount a serious presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election. While affirming that no Kamba is against Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions, they argue that some leaders simply differ with him on matters of ideology, strategy, and seriousness in pursuing the top seat. They insist that running for president is not a casual affair but a mission that requires clear structure, a winning team, and focused direction.
The critics have posed a series of hard questions directed at the Wiper leadership, seeking clarity on what concrete steps have been taken to position Kalonzo as the most preferred opposition candidate. They question whether the party has built a strong campaign team capable of mobilizing and engaging the electorate even in Kalonzo’s absence — as seen in other political movements such as the DCP, where leaders like Karugo, Murango, and Methu hold independent rallies to promote their agenda.
Another key issue raised is the need for a comprehensive rebranding of Kalonzo’s public image. According to the critics, the former Vice President is often viewed as indecisive or politically soft, an image that may undermine his national appeal. They argue that Wiper strategists must urgently work to reshape this perception and project Kalonzo as a decisive, confident leader capable of steering the nation forward.
The debate has also focused on whether Wiper can realistically run a nationwide campaign that resonates beyond Ukambani. Questions have been raised about the party’s capacity to connect with voters across different regions and address the persistent problem of voter apathy in its traditional strongholds. Without a robust grassroots mobilization framework, observers warn that Wiper risks falling short of national expectations.
Additionally, concerns have been voiced over internal democracy within the Wiper Party, with calls for Kalonzo to embrace criticism and stop the practice of imposing unpopular candidates on voters. The leaders are urging him to unite all influential voices within Ukambani, even those not fully aligned with his bid, to ensure a united front. As 2027 draws closer, many believe these questions must be addressed candidly if Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential dream is to be taken seriously at the national stage.
