The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, has concluded a successful tour of Ongole Beef Farm in Laikipia County, where he lauded the farm’s innovative approach to livestock production and value addition. The visit is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen livestock commercialization and make livestock farming a profitable venture for Kenyan farmers.

Speaking during the tour, PS Mueke emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the livestock sector through modernization and market-driven approaches. “Our key goal is livestock commercialization to transform livelihoods and make livestock a truly profitable enterprise for our farmers,” stated Mueke, underscoring the ministry’s dedication to boosting productivity and sustainability in the industry.

Ongole Beef Farm has emerged as a model for private sector-led agricultural growth, demonstrating best practices in feed production, livestock traceability, and value addition. The farm uses a traceability system that tracks meat from farm to fork, ensuring quality and transparency. In addition, it trains local farmers on modern beef production techniques and adds value through premium beef products, creating employment and enhancing food safety.

PS Mueke highlighted that such partnerships between the private sector and government are key to achieving Kenya’s livestock development goals. He reaffirmed that the government is focused on strengthening cooperatives, improving market access for farmers, and promoting sustainable beef production across the country.
