Mwingi Central politics is taking a new twist as CPA John Makau continues to tighten his grip on the constituency, positioning himself as a strong contender for the 2027 parliamentary race.
Residents, increasingly vocal about their desire for a new leadership order, are rallying behind Makau, citing his clean track record, development-focused agenda, and close ties with the grassroots.
The Wiper Democratic Movement leadership has also thrown its full weight behind Makau, signaling a possible party endorsement ahead of the next general elections. This development has left many political observers questioning whether the incumbent MP, Dr. Gideon Mulyungi, will withstand the growing political onslaught.
Supporters of Makau argue that the constituency needs “fresh, visionary leadership” to unlock its full potential in infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment.
“As residents, we want a leader who understands our challenges and is ready to work for the people, not personal interests,” said one resident during a recent community meeting.
With the race heating up, analysts predict that Mwingi Central could witness one of the most competitive political battles in Kitui County come 2027.
