WILDFIRE RAVAGES MUKONG’A VILLAGE IN MUMONI FOREST
A fierce wildfire has been raging in Mukong’a Village within the Mumoni Forest in Mwingi North since Sunday, October 19, 2025, causing widespread alarm among residents and local authorities. The blaze, which has persisted for several days, continues to destroy vegetation and threaten wildlife habitats in the hilly terrain.
According to local reports, the affected area is deep within the Mumoni Hills, making it extremely difficult for rescue and firefighting teams to access. The site can only be reached after a grueling 3 to 4-hour hike due to the lack of accessible roads, further complicating containment efforts.
The County Forester and a team of forest officers are currently on the ground assessing the situation. The government has indicated that it is awaiting a comprehensive report from the forester before deploying additional resources or requesting national support to curb the fire.
Residents have been urged to remain alert and avoid the affected zones as efforts continue to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby settlements. The cause of the fire is yet to be established, but authorities suspect it may have been triggered by human activity or prolonged dry conditions in the region.
