Kitui County Marked World Food Day with a Call for Partnership, Innovation, and Climate-Smart Agriculture
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, Kitui County joined the global community in commemorating World Food Day with a focus on collaboration for a food-secure future. The event was held at Musukini Village in Mutito/Kaliku Ward, Kitui East Sub-county, and was organized by the County Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
Representing the CECM for Agriculture, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, Chief Officer for Livestock Mr. Jonathan Kyambi led the county’s delegation. Delivering remarks on behalf of the CECM, CO Kyambi shared a message from Dr. Kimwele: _“Building a food-secure Kitui requires more than just good policies, it calls for innovation, and grassroots partnerships. Together, we can transform our agricultural landscape and empower our farmers to thrive in the face of climate change.”_ Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, CECM for Agriculture, Kitui County
The celebration brought together development partners, farmers, and county officials to promote sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices. With the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” the event emphasized the importance of partnerships. Organizations such as ADRA, FIPS Africa, AGRA, Africa Harvest, and the Cereal Growers Association demonstrated innovative approaches to improving soil health, promoting conservation agriculture, and equipping farmers with the tools and knowledge to enhance productivity.
Attendees participated in exhibitions and hands-on demonstrations covering Zaipit technology, mulching, ripping, and soil management. The event also featured farmer testimonies on the benefits of improved seeds, value addition, and sustainable practices.
Senior county officials, including Chief Officer for Energy Mr. Henry Nyamai and Director for Agriculture Mr. Francis Kitoo, were also in attendance.
