On Thursday 29th April, 2021 – The County Government of Kitui through the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives and Investments is on the verge of partnering with the Kenya Meat Commission ( KMC) in a major deal that is meant to benefit Kitui Livestock Traders with market for their livestock.
This was deliberated today during a farmer sensitization and public participation meeting between the County Ministry of Tade Cooperatives and Investments, the Kenya Meat Commission and the Kitui Livestock Traders Cooperative leaders held at the Kitui Agricultural Training Centre.
According to the Chief Legal Office Kenya Meat Commission ( KMC) Major Grace Ajierh, the company has had only 6 supplies in the entire Kitui County in the last 2 years, and is willing to partner with more livestock farmers for business since it has a ready market for livestock.
In her remarks, Governor Charity Ngilu welcomed the business deal by KMC terming it as a great milestone in eradicating poverty levels and creating wealth in the county through empowering livestock farmers, noting that Kitui’s poverty levels stands at 63% of the entire population.
” I am very delighted to learn about this; I am sure we are going to create wealth and kick out poverty in the county,” she said.
Kitui Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau encouraged farmers to breed high quality livestock which stand to fetch higher prices in the market.
Once the KMC deal is sealed, farmers coming together as a cooperative will need a certificate of expression, while a company will need a tax compliance certificate and pin certificate and personal details for individuals.
