Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has appointed a nine-member committee, to assess the drought emergency in the County and prepare a comprehensive response plan for the County Government.
This follows the total failure of rainfall in the March to May season, which has led to severe shortages of food, water, and pasture throughout the County.

The committee which is chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau draws membership from the Ministries of Water and Agriculture, Health and Sanitation, County Treasury, Pubic Service, and Administration, and the Office of the Governor.
Briefing the County Senior Management Team after the first meeting of the Committee, the Deputy Governor said that the team had established that all 8 sub-counties were seriously affected by shortages of water, food, and pasture, and the nutritional status of the community was seriously deteriorating.
He said that they had been mandated by Her Excellency the Governor to work on a “whole-government-basis” to prepare a comprehensive response to the crisis.
The committee will present a rollout plan to the Governor by 13th August and launch drought emergency operations by 16th August 2021.
