Kitui Records Historic Revenue Collection Under Governor Malombe’s Leadership
Kitui County has posted a historic revenue collection of KSh 895 million, a sharp rise compared to the KSh 361 million collected by the previous administration.
In a statement released by Chief Officer for Finance and Revenue Collection, CPA John Makau, the impressive performance was attributed to the visionary leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, coupled with transparent systems and effective collection models.
CPA Makau said the county is well on track to hit the KSh 1 billion mark in own-source revenue in the coming years, marking a major turnaround in Kitui’s financial management.
He further noted that the success has been achieved without introducing new charges on businesses, but rather through the adoption of digitized and automated revenue collection systems, which have enhanced accountability and efficiency.
Governor Malombe’s administration has been lauded for instilling a culture of hard work, transparency, and prudent resource mobilization, which has significantly boosted investor confidence and improved county revenue performance.
The robust revenue mobilization is expected to accelerate service delivery in key sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, education, and water provision, directly improving the lives of ordinary Kitui residents. The county government has assured that every shilling collected will be directed towards people-centered development programs.
Leaders across Kitui have also hailed the transformation, terming it a clear demonstration that with strong leadership and good governance, counties can fully unlock their economic potential. They noted that Malombe’s administration is setting a benchmark for other devolved units in Kenya.
As the county eyes the KSh 1 billion milestone, the ministry of finance has pledged to continue strengthening monitoring systems, sealing loopholes, and embracing innovation to ensure sustained growth in revenue collection.
