Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Katisya has come out strongly to defend the county government against criticism from Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua over the ongoing sand harvesting controversy.

Katisya dismissed the senator’s claims of mismanagement and irregularities in the sand sector, stating that the county government has put in place clear policies to regulate harvesting and ensure local communities benefit from the resource. He emphasized that sand harvesting remains a key economic activity supporting livelihoods across Kitui.

The Speaker maintained that the county administration is committed to transparency, environmental protection, and proper revenue collection from sand harvesting. He urged leaders to avoid politicizing the matter and instead work together to streamline the sector for the benefit of residents.

Katisya said leaders who are currently complaining about sand harvesting have been around for many years and they have never talked about it, they are using it for political gains.

The exchange between the two leaders highlights growing political tension in the county over control, regulation, and revenue from the lucrative sand harvesting industry.
