KITUI COUNTY HOLDS HOTELIER SENSITIZATION FORUM TO BOOST TOURISM SECTOR
Kitui County Deputy Governor and CECM for Tourism, Hospitality, and Game Reserves, H.E. Wambua Kanani, on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, presided over a sensitization forum for hoteliers in Kitui town. The meeting brought together key players in the hospitality sector to discuss opportunities arising from the newly launched Kitui Tourism Circuit by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.
While addressing the participants, Deputy Governor Kanani urged hotel operators to embrace professionalism and excellence in service delivery to help promote the new tourism circuit. “Take full advantage of the newly launched tourism circuit by H.E Dr. Julius Malombe. Your good gesture towards tourists will help market Kitui and attract more visitors,” he emphasized.
The forum, organized in collaboration with national tourism agencies, featured representatives from the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the Tourism Fund (TF). The TRA pledged to equip hoteliers with key regulatory information, including hotel registration, licensing, and accreditation of accommodation facilities—highlighting that currently, no hotel in Kitui County has been accredited.
The Tourism Fund also announced an upcoming two-week upskilling program for hotel staff beginning Monday, October 6th, 2025. Additionally, Kenya Utalii College will partner with the county government to offer professional training, ensuring hotel workers acquire certification and meet national tourism standards.

Governor Malombe, who launched the Kitui Tourism Circuit on September 27th, 2025, noted that tourism is not just an economic activity but a driver of social and economic progress. The initiative is expected to create jobs, boost local businesses, and promote Kitui as a unique destination for cultural and eco-tourism experiences across Eastern Kenya.
