Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe EGH hosted the Principal Secretary State Department of Correctional Services Mary Muthoni for a working courtesy call during her official visit to Kitui.
As part of the familiarization visits to prisons, the State Department of Correctional services is keen on checking the situation of the different correctional facilities around the country and the recommendations to improve them.
The discussions focused on continued collaboration and cooperation in sanitation, tree planting, health and promoting the prison made furniture that is among the best in the country among others.

As part of measures to decongest prisons, the government is emphasizing on Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms across the country to reduce court cases. 70% of the inmates in Kitui Prisons are youths below 35 years with 50% of them being petty offenders.
During the visit, the PS was in company of Kitui County Commissioner Erastus Mbui, Eastern Regional Commander of Prisons and the Kitui Prison’s boss among others.
