On Wednesday, 9TH JUNE, 2021- Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu called on manufacturers in the country to work closely with County Governments to ensure that environmental consciousness is mainstreamed in all industrial activities in the Country.
In a remarks made on her behalf by Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau during the launch of the Kenya Extended Producer Responsibility Organization(KEPRO) at the Kempinski Hotel, Nairobi, Governor Ngilu asked industries to review their production methods to ensure that they do not bear negative impact on the environment.

The Extended Producer Responsibility Organization is an initiative of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM),* the umbrella organization that brings together all private sector manufacturers in the Country.
Governor Ngilu noted that the Kenya Plastic Action Plan which KAM launched in 2019 was a turning point in managing industrial plastic waste and promoting recycling practices in the country.

She noted that County Governments like Kitui, Makueni and Nyandarua were venturing into manufacturing and Agro-processing, and therefore needed to interact closely with other manufacturers so that they could share on best practices in creating a circular economy in Kenya.
The launch of KEPRO was witnessed by the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Environment and Forestry Dr Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary for the State Departments for Industrialization Amb. Peter Kaberia, and the Ambassador of Denmark to Kenya Mette Knudsen, among other dignitaries.
