On Wednesday, May 17, 2023 – Kitui County Executive led by the Deputy Governor H.E Augustine Kanani (center seated) held a consultative meeting with USAID’s Resilience Learning Activity (RLA) officials at KEFRI Kitui.
The meeting discussed, among other issues, building and maintaining cordial relations with the media as a key player in matters development.
Media and communication expert Prof. Levi Obonyo urged the county administration and her development partners among them USAID to constantly engage media in implementation of projects and programs to guarantee constant flow of information to the residents.
On his part, DG Kanani affirmed the county government’s endeavours to work closely with the media as a way of promoting transparency, accountability and feedback regarding public service delivery.
USAID, in partnership with the county government, has since Monday conducted a training workshop for Public Communication Officers and Kitui-based journalists with a view to building capacity of the media teams.
The four-day training is being undertaken through the RLA program and facilitated by MindNextMedia Communication.
The training also seeks to strengthen the relationship and links between the various media outlets, the County Government, and USAID implementing partners to enhance information sharing with local communities.
This will be achieved through establishing and understanding the existing county capacities, gaps and opportunities in strengthening strategic communications functions for resilience among other objectives.
Other USAID-RLA officials present were the South Eastern Kenya County Officer Titus Kyalo and Development Communication Expert Madam Rachel Kibui.
The Deputy County Secretary Alex Kimanzi and the Director of Governor’s Press/Public Communication Onesmus Kilonzo were also present.*CGoK-Comm. Dept.*
