By COUNTY DIARY.
On 29th December,2020,a swam of desert locusts from Mutha ward( Ndakani sublocation) invaded kanziku ward (Ndilili and Kyanyaa sublocation) in Kitui south.
Over the period they have spread to the neighboring sublocations ( Ekani, Kivandeni and Keutunda) the COUNTY DIARY has established.
A team from both County and National government responded immediately but faced challenges of logistics, bad weather and ever migrating locusts.
On thursday, they attempted to spray the locusts by use of a military fixed wing aeroplane backed by a helecopter for logistical support.
However, the weather adversely affected the operation and they were forced to call off. Yesterday, 1st January 2021, the swams migrated from Kyanganga area to other areas like Muthue, Mutuluni, Ekani, Kwamukuku, Ikutha (Ngasaani and Ngomano).
Reports we are receiving now, a swam from Mutha has invaded Keutunda…Another swam from Ikutha ward is said to be coming back to Kanziku ward!!!
I have requested the national team to organise for another aerial spraying because almost every sublocation in my ward is now affected, Kanziku MCA James Munuve told the COUNTY DIARY EDITORIAL.
In addition to that, they need to dispatch a team of NYS officers to help in ground spraying especially on our farms and splitter swams of locusts which maybe left during migration, Munuve added.
On Sunday, a team of 60 NYS officers will join the other team to help in ground spraying, James told Reporters.
