Nearly 60 years of independence kitui county leadership must rethink and reevaluate the counties development approach to tame decades of underdevelopment marginalization and high levels of poverty
County residents must also take a front line position in demading their rightful share of development from elected leaders in the area.
Speaking during the burial of the late Mulwa Kilonzi in malembwa village Kyamatu location in kitui east subcounty, former director of communications Kitui County Munyasya Nzese Musya said for many years kitui county has lagged behind development sighting voo/kyamatu ward which is generally still lacking in basic social-economic infrastructure.
Time has come for us ordinary citizens and our leaders to sit back and look back and ask ourselves what went wrong that 60 years after independence we are still one of the most poorest ,underdeveloped and backward people, we must now demand development from our elected leaders.”
He said county government of kitui must fully engage residents in public participation to enable them identify their most pressing needs and stir up social-economic development. ” let us demand services from our elected leaders.
Do not ask for “tea” or small cash handouts from them. Let us ask for what will benefit everyone and not petty personal gains.”
Munyasya who is one of the top and highly respected journalist in the country and who hails from voo/kyamatu ward said what marginalised communities need was greater opportunity and involvement in development and urged residents to keep the elected leaders on their toes to deliver on their promises.
Munyasya has been on the forefront in advocating for development in this region a move which is worrying the elected leaders leaving them in questions on Munyasya’s political stand in 2022 with some alleging that he could be in the political race come 2022.
