The plane arrived early this morning in Ngomeni area and several rounds of aerial spraying were done before the swarms of locusts woke up from the trees they had perched on overnight.

The second round of spraying will continue tomorrow at Kyuso area of Mwingi-North Sub-county where another large swarm has been spotted and its roosting zone identified.

The swarm has already destroyed farms in the affected area and the county team led by Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau is on the ground to co-ordinate response and assess damage.

We are encouraged by quick response from the team at the locusts co-ordination centre. The agriculture department, county response team and the sub county administrations are on high alert monitoring the situation.
