A team of youthful professionals from Kitui South delivered the much awaited first Kitui South Community Dialogue (KSCD).
Speaker after speaker endorsed the forum and from the start, it was evident that dialogue amongst communities is the way to go!
Mutomo DCC Ronald Enyakasi said the meeting was not only timely but “God send” as well in his remarks to declare the meeting open.
Participants lauded various development projects initiated in Kitui South by area MP Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai among them the just concluded Ikutha Technical Training College, the KMTC and SEKU Mutomo campuses, facilitation of the training and licensing of boda boda operators, issuance of bursaries to needy learners and the continuing lobbying for other bigger projects from the Government.
Dr Temi Mutia, the main speaker of the conference took participants through key areas of value addition in Kitui South whose harnessing is imperative for the creation of wealth and eradication of poverty in Kitui South.
These range from honey and other bee products, farm crops like Ndengu, mangoes, wild fruits like mabuyu and tamarinds, ecotourism and mineral wealth.
Communications expert and seasoned public relations practitioner Munyasya Musya urged residents to embrace the media in the furthering of communal agenda in his presentation.
He further urged the media to focus on the potential for growth and development in Kitui South during their reporting to help in the rebranding of the region as it awaits key investors now that the Kibwezi -Mutomo – Kitui highway is nearing completion.
Aggrey Nzomo, the National Youth Council Chairman -Kitui County chapter and a speaker in the forum was emphatic that the future of the youths remains in skills development.
Other speakers in the conference were Ms. Laureen Mwende ( CEO Sweden-Mutomo Projects International and Mr. Maimbu Nyamai ( FSA Manager Mutomo). The duo spoke on the roles of development partners and financial institutions in development and improvement of the livelihoods of Kitui South residents respectively.
And at the end of the dialogue, various resolutions were arrived at. They are:
- A commitment towards sustained engagements with the police service for enhancement of safety and security along the highway.

Continuous sessions with boda boda operators, transporters and other road users on basics principles of road safety and proper road usage for their safety alongside ensuring for continued issuance of licences to all operators.

Continuous lobbying from the government ( County and National) as well as development partners and senior professionals for support in matters related to the socio -economic enhancement of the region as well as support of the youth in the realization of special talents.
- Commencement of networks, collaborations and partnerships with all development partners in the areas of value addition along existing value chains of local resources in the region.
