County Assembly Departmental Committees Visit KICOTEC

The Assembly committee on departmental heads led by majority Leader Hon kilonzo on 1st March 2019 visited kicotec garment plant.

Members of the Kitui County Assembly were on their fifth day of the 2nd week of County Projects Inspection Tour, The MCAs had an opportunity to visit the Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC) which is situated in Township Ward to check on the project’s progress.

The facility was established under Governor Charity Ngilu’s regime, in the financial year 2017/ 2018.

The Garment plant has created thousands of employment to locals residents across the county, Its a golden opportunity presented by the County Government that will scale up growth and create enabling the environment to build the sector.

That is on a recovery path after decades of inadequacy and inefficiency citing lack of a garment making plant in kitui Joana kimwele added.

In moving away from a reliance on imported garments, the county seeks to expand in manufacturing capacity and improve on sustainable development that encourages long-term prosperity for the entire region and country, The Minister Philip Mumo told our reporters.

Several Ward Representatives lauded the project, as well as the majority of them, questioned its operational framework.

They assured the institution’s administration that they will do all that is within their reach to ensure the project operates within the required standards.
