There were some teachers in Kitui County who were among the hundreds of the aspiring candidates there in the Kenya’s Tuesday, August 9, 2022 general elections.
Kasalu was defending her seat. Emmah is a retired teacher and she is also the former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui Branch Women’s Representative.
Joseph Muviwa Kasyula (Green Thinking Action Party), David Mbisi (Wiper Democratic Movement) and Onesmus Mwendwa Ngile (United Democratic Alliance) were also defeated in the elections.
Kasyula was vying for the Kitui Central Constituency parliamentary seat where he and some other candidates were trounced by Dr. Benson Makali Mulu who was defending his seat on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.
Kasyula is the immediate former Principal of the Siakago Boys High School in Embu County. Before being transferred to the Siakago Boys High School, he was the Principal of the Mutitu Boys High School in Mutitu District, Kitui County. Mbisi is the former head teacher of the Mutukya Primary School in Kitui Central District and he is also the former KNUT Kitui Branch Assistant Executive Secretary.
He was vying for the Miambani Assembly Ward Member seat in Kitui Central Constituency where Alex Mutambu Nganga (National Rainbow Coalition) retained his County Assembly Member seat. And Ngile, a teacher at the Kangungi Primary School in Kitui West District resigned to vie for the Kauwi Assembly Ward Member seat in Kitui West Constituency.
He together with five other candidates were trounced by Gabriel Mutunga Munyao (National Rainbow Coalition). He (Ngile) scooped the third position in the race.
In total, Kitui County has eight parliamentary constituencies namely Kitui Central, Kitui West, Kitui East, Mwingi North, Kitui South, Mwingi Central, Mwingi West and Kitui Rural and some 40 assembly wards.
