On Thursday, 18th May, 2023 – The senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has today held a public participation forum on the Cotton Industry Development Bill, 2023.
The Bill is sponsored by Nominated Senator Hon. Beth Kalunda Syengo seeks to provide for the production, processing, marketing and distribution of cotton in Kenya and its products and establish the Cotton Industry Development Board to provide a framework for cotton farming to ensure value addition to cotton and its related products.
The committee’s chairman Hon. James Murango Senator Kirinyanga County has said that time has come to have a board that will only deal with cotton farming matters and protect the cotton farmers who will be able to get subsidized cotton seeds and other cotton farming inputs.
CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Stephen Kimwele Mbaya was in attendance for the two day public participation on the Bill that took place in Kyuso at the DCC’s Office Hall Mwingi North Sub-County and KEFRI Hall in Kitui Central Sub-County.
