The South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) celebrated its 10th Graduation Ceremony on the 26th of October, 2024, at the graduation Pavilion, located in the serene surroundings of the Main Campus in Kwa Vonza, Kitui Rural Sub-county.
This momentous occasion was marked by the presence of esteemed guests, including the Deputy Governor of Kitui County, HE Wambua Kanani, who addressed the SEKU graduands and shared valuable insights.
SEKU’s commitment to education equality was reaffirmed during this graduation ceremony. The Deputy Governor, on behalf of Dr. Malombe, emphasized the importance of eliminating education inequality, which has been a significant hurdle in delivering services effectively in Kitui County.
Governor Malombe’s unwavering dedication to the “Kisomo Nokyo” mantra was evident in his congratulatory message to the incoming Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shitanda. The Governor pledged the County’s full support in achieving the establishment of SEKU Mwingi campus, which promises to create more learning opportunities for students from Kitui County and beyond.
Furthermore, Governor Malombe unveiled an ambitious master plan within the Ministry of Health. This plan aims to transform Kitui County Referral Hospital (KCRH) and Mwingi Level IV Hospital into teaching and referral hospitals, eventually housing the prestigious SEKU School of Medicine.
This visionary approach will provide SEKU’s medical students with an advantage in their careers, while simultaneously improving the quality of healthcare services for the people of Kitui County through the expertise of these students and professionals.
A significant highlight of this plan is the upcoming postmodern cancer center at KCRH. Not only will it provide critical cancer treatment services to the community, but it will also serve as a facility for medical students pursuing various medical-related courses to gain practical experience.
The new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shitanda, expressed his gratitude for the support of the County Government in enhancing SEKU’s infrastructure and educational offerings. His assurance of a collaborative partnership reflects the bright future that lies ahead for SEKU and its students.
The 10th Graduation at SEKU was graced by the presence of senior scholars from across the country, further underlining the significance of this milestone in the university’s history.
In conclusion, SEKU’s 10th Graduation Ceremony not only celebrated the academic achievements of its graduates but also marked a significant step forward in the pursuit of educational excellence and equality in Kitui County.
With the unwavering support of Governor Malombe and the promise of a new Vice Chancellor, SEKU is set to become a beacon of learning and innovation, offering boundless opportunities for students and contributing to the welfare of the community through improved healthcare services.
It’s a promising future for both SEKU and Kitui County as a whole.
