Imale, Kitui Central – The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, together with the Principal Secretary for Energy, Eng. Alex Wachira, today commissioned the Last Mile Electrification Project implemented by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
The project marks a major stride towards achieving universal access to electricity in Kitui County, bringing affordable and reliable power to homes, schools, and businesses in Imale and surrounding areas.
Speaking during the event, the two PSs emphasized that electrification will be a catalyst for economic transformation in rural communities — powering agribusiness, creating jobs, boosting local industries, and enhancing research and innovation in the agricultural and energy sectors.
The leaders reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bridging the rural-urban development gap through sustainable energy infrastructure, saying that access to electricity remains a key driver of improved livelihoods and inclusive growth in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
