The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the livestock sector in Turkana County — one of Kenya’s key Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions where livestock forms the backbone of the local economy.
Speaking after a consultative meeting with three Members of Parliament from the region, PS Mueke said discussions centered on key livestock projects, including the County Slaughterhouse, the Tannery, and the Livestock Insurance Programme.
“This morning, I met three MPs representing the county to follow up on key livestock projects — including the County Slaughterhouse, Tannery and Livestock Insurance Programme,” said Mueke.
The meeting was attended by Hon. Ekwom Nabuin (Turkana North), Hon. Protus Akuja (Loima), and Hon. Daniel Epuyo Nanok (Turkana West).
PS Mueke emphasized that the government, in collaboration with local leaders, is committed to fully commercializing the livestock sector to enhance productivity, create jobs, and improve livelihoods for the people of Turkana County.
