On Friday 28th, April 2023 – President Dr. William Ruto appointed Lt. General Francis Omondi Ogolla as the new Chief of Defence Forces, replacing General Robert Kariuki Kibochi whose tenure has come to an end.
General Ogolla was, until the appointment announced on Friday, serving as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, the TCD Digital Reports.
General Kibochi, according to a circular from the Ministry of Defence, exits after serving in the military for 44 years.
PROMOTIONS, POSTINGS AND APPOINTMENTS OF THE OFFICERS OF THE KENYA DEFENCE FORCES
His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, and Commander- in-Chief of the Defence Forces, pursuant to Section 9 (2), (a) of the Kenya Defence Forces
Act, has promoted Lieutenant General Francis Omondi Ogolla to the rank of
General and appointed him Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF). Prior to this appointment General Francis Omondi Ogolla was the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.
General Francis Omondi Ogolla replaces General Robert Kariuki Kibochi whose term of service has honourably come to an end after 44 years of illustrious military career.
The President has also appointed Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF). Prior to this appointment Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi
was the Vice Chancellor, National Defence University – Kenya.
Major General Said Farah
takes over from Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi as Vice Chancellor, National Defence University – Kenya.
Further, on the advice of the Defence Council, chaired by Hon Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Defence, which met today, the President upheld the Defence Council’s recommendations, and made various promotions, postings and appointments of KDF
officers as follows:
