President Kenyatta Rolls Out Universal Health Cover In the Country

On Saturday, October 31, 2020 – President Kenyatta Rolled out Universal Health Cover in the Country.

President Kenyatta officially launched the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the country.

This development comes in the second day of the Summit on the UHC attended by Governors & national government representatives.

The government had piloted the Universal Health Cover programme in Isiolo, Machakos, Nyeri & Kisumu counties.

Recruitment of the UHC workers is set to begin in the country ( MoH tasked to transfer payroll after hiring).

The government is on the verge of establishing the UHC fund* to guarantee financing.

The gov’t will reform the NHIF to add a county governments’ representative to the board.

During her stint in the Health ministry, Ngilu tried unsuccessfully to have Kenya launch a UHC between 2003 and 2008.
