Kitui Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau has today led a team of experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development and also a team of Engineers in the Ministry of Lands, Infrastructure, Housi and Urban Development (LIHUD), to examine how best the Kitui Slaughter House can be improved for animal slaughter and meat value chain addition.
This was done following a meeting which was held earlier this week at Kitui’s Agricultural Training Centre (ATC), to discuss on Post Covid-19 Pandemic Mitigation especially on slaughter house improvement to improve meat value chain.
The County Government is set to refurbish the slaughter house which currently has a capacity to slaughter 100 Cattle and 500 shoats(Goats and Sheep) per day, purposefully to.
- To improve slaughtering hygiene
- Increase slaughtering capacity.
- Do meat value chain through meat chilling and meat cut including vacuum packaging.
- Introduce line of meat value chain through meat processing technology and canning.
Present was the CECM and the Chief Officer for Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development Emmanuel Kisangau and James Mbii respectively, and the County Chief of Staff Chrispas Ileli.
