Kitui governor Charity Ngilu on Friday toured Kitui slaughter house few months after the facility the county government pumped money into it for renovations.
Ngilu said she was impressed by the increased number of the animals that are slaughtered, the numbers increased from a daily maximum of 20 to more than 100 animals each day.
“My wish is to have a 24hr economy in Kitui and we are working to make Kitui slaughter an abatoure where more than 500 animals can be slaughtered with 24hrs’ . She said.
Locals at the facility expressed their gratitude for the county government’s input to improve the quality of services , giving examples of fencing that has ended animal theft and escape, provison of security lights backed up with a solar system and water flow that makes work efficient and fast.
The Governor promised to train them on improving skills and making the slaughter house a 24hr operation.
