Ngilu Reveals her Guarded secret behind Kicotec Plant


When the Governor of Kitui County, Hon Charity Kaluki Ngilu disclosed her guarded idea of Kitui County Textile (Kicotec) Majority of the people of Kitui dismissed her, little did they know that, the idea will take off like Bush fire.

The humble beginnings of the textile centre (KICOTEC) started off as a simple embroidery outfit stitching uniforms before inking a lucrative deal in 2019 to tailor over 6, 000 uniforms for chiefs and their assistants countrywide.

Local outfits are plugging in the gap and becoming innovative as PPE shortages in the country pose tremendous challenges to the country’s weak healthcare system in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.

The county Textile plant has become the epicentre of interest in Kenya and beyond, with the international community lauding the idea and how it has created a number of employment opportunities among the youth in Kitui courtesy of Charity Ngilu.
