Ngilu Moves To Convert Kwa Kilui Ballast Plant Into A Wealth Creation Hub

The County Government erected a ballast crusher at Kitui Rural’s Kwa Kilui area a region endowed with stones key for the project’s success.

Governor Charity Ngilu’s vision was to ensure groups and community members in Yatta Kwa Vonza and Kanyangi wards would not only own shares but also have a stake in the management of the crusher.

The county Ballast Crusher establishment is anchored on creation of employment, generation of revenue for the county, supporting the economy of the surrounding area and reducing the cost that the county spends on infrastructure projects such as road construction.

The crusher is a state the art machine with a production capacity of 120 tones per hour.


Among the targeted clients of the crusher are contractors who build roads, houses and other infrastructure projects.

The project will also open up new wealth creation opportunities for the residents though direct and indirect activities.

The corporation bill passed by the County Assembly requires that the ballast crusher becomes a parastatal and community members and cooperatives allocated shares and be included in the management.

Governor Ngilu has further established the Kitui Youth Skills and Enterprise Company {KIYOSEC} that has hired hundreds of youths.
