On Tuesday March 30, 2021 – Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu met a team of 10 Elite drivers who have been identified to receive training from the Kenya Highways and Building Technology, KHBIT, and commence transportation of Livestock from Kitui County to markets countrywide.
This comes after the county Government of Kitui makes final arrangements for the procurement of 5 trucks that will be used to ferry Cows and goats; having received a clean bill of health from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, EACC.
In her remarks, Governor Ngilu urged the drivers to take charge of ensuring that they serve the interests of Livestock farmers in Kitui with diligence.
“Money will be entrusted to you in the form of cattle and goats….. that is Kitui wealth, treat it with care and be sure to remain on the lookout for anyone who would want to harm them…. I shall support you every way I can within the law.” She said.
On her part, Madam Esther Kilonzi, Trade and Cooperatives CeCM, urged the drivers to be disciplined, neat and observe traffic laws to ensure a smooth operation of these trucks and the livestock trade in Kitui County.
“We are opening a frontier here, a 1st of many to come, let’s remain true to livestock farmers and the trade… let’s work with synergy for the people of Kitui.” Waziri mentioned.
Kitui county has over the years cut a niche for itself for it’s remarkable livestock, specifically goats and the county Government has procured 5 Trucks that will be used to transport the livestock directly from the farmers to available market within Kitui and other places countrywide.
This is in line with Governor Ngilu’s 5 Pillar Manifesto where among other things, Governor Ngilu seeks to create wealth for the people of Kitui County.
