On Monday, 3rd August, 2020, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu held a consultative meeting with the Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala at his office, where they discussed matters tourism and wildlife – human conflict in Kitui County.
In the meeting, she highlighted on the havoc, loss and deaths which have been brought about by stray wild animals to people and animals in Kitui County, compensation to those affected and the remedies to avoid similar cases.
The two later held a meeting with the technical teams from both sides and discussed further on the measures to be taken by the two levels of governments to deal with the situation.
They resolved to partner on a memorandum of understanding dealing with the stray animals and generating revenue to the County from the Mwingi North and South Kitui National reserves.
In the meeting, Governor ngilu was accompanied by CECM Tourism Koki Musau Kuvasila, Director Tourism Hezron Mulatya, and Jimmy Musili, senior Game warden.
CS Balala was accompanied by CAS Joseph Boinet, PS Prof. Fred Segor, Director wildlife partnerships and Co-existence Dr. Erustus Kanga, wildlife sector advisor Ali Kaka.
