On Monday 12th, July 2020, Governor Charity Ngilu launched the Kazi Mashinani Initiative that will offer Kitui youth employment, the COUNTY DIARY reports.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Ngilu lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for his move to empower youth during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Governor Ngilu was accompanied by Kitui County Commissioner, John Odeng’o, and a host of county and National Government Officials.
“I thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for his timely response on matters youth, and most importantly, during these trying times when COVID-19 pandemic has led to massive loss of jobs,” said Governor Ngilu.
Governor Ngilu called upon the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity to empower themselves by saving a portion of their earning.
Governor Ngilu urged Kitui residents to continue observing laid down protocols such as social distance, use of face masks and handwashing, meant to curb the spread of coronavirus.
“Utilise this chance well but remember you must be careful, Corona is real, it’s not a joke. Let us not let down our guard,” she said.
Dubbed Kazi Mashinani, this is an initiative by President Kenyatta whose objective is to cushion the youth financially against the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The initiative also binds with Governor Ngilu’s Manifesto that targets youth development.
Mr Odeng’o reiterated the need to observe the social distance, proper use of face masks and handwashing as basic health protocols to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
