“It is time to Change the Constitution” Says Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu on BBI Launch.
On Monday 26th, october Governor Charity Ngilu stressed the need to change the constitution and embrace a better leadership structure in the country.
Speaking at Bomas of Kenya during the launch of the BBI report graced by President Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and former Premier Raila Odinga among other leaders, the Governor said time is ripe for Kenya to embrace change as envisioned in the BBI document.
“We passed the Constitution 2010 and said we’d slowly amend it for the better, ten years later, we’re here to do that exactly that”. said Ngilu.
The Governor praised BBI for the increase in the 15% to 35% allocation to counties proposed saying it will go a long way in growing economies in the counties and guarantee strengthened devolution services.
“These resources will really help us build our counties. Handouts will not solve our problems”. She said.
On women leadership in the National Assembly, the Governor said the 2/3rd gender rule was an issue long overdue that needs to be addressed urgently commending the CJ Maraga recent advisory.
The Governor urged Kenyans to support the changes proposed in the report saying they will cure many of the underlying issues in the country and boost the rural economies through increased devolved resources.
