Ngilu Backs BBI, Says Deal Will Grow Counties

    On 22nd Thursday, October, 2022 – Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu today endorsed the Building Bridges Initiative as a plan that will grow counties through increased resource allocations.

    Speaking at Katulani in Kitui Central Constituency, the Governor said that the increase in the percentage of funds allocated to county governments from 15 per cent to 35 per cent will strengthen devolution and ensure that county governments have adequate funds to carry out their operations”.

    The Governor asked Kenyans to shun politicians who practice handouts and tokenism, noting that the solutions to youth unemployment is through skills development and innovations.*

    “The unemployment and economic disparity cannot be resolved by wheelbarrows but by skills development, apprenticeship and creating market for them,” said Governor Ngilu.

    Through the BBI, she says, the overseeing functions by counties among others provision of healthcare, pre-primary education, food production, water provision and maintenance of local roads will receive a boost.

    She added that *”increased resource allocation for Kitui will grow the manufacturing sector, increase job opportunities and increase revenue for the county”.*

    On leadership, Ngilu said that the report addresses gender disparity between men and women in both elective and appointive public bodies.

    “Women have a right to seek elective positions as enshrined in the constitution. These positions are not a preserve of any gender.” the Governor pointed out.

    She further called on Kenyans to support the BBI report saying it would provide long-term solutions to the problems facing Kenyans.
