KITUI, Wednesday – The long-running riddle over the multi-million ballast crusher at the centre of a bitter dispute between Kitui County Government and targeted beneficiaries could be finally be solved this week, COUNTY DIARY has learnt.
According to a communique seen by this news website, the warring parties are set to meet with the tight-fisted and embattled Kitui County Governer H.E Ngilu who will attempt to explain the who, the what, the where and the whys – pertaining to the powerful stone crushing machine based at Kwa Vonza, Kitui.
But the meeting is expected to be as acrimonious as they come – if a communique send by the leaders of beneficiaries is anything to go by.
“We will not be taken for a ride. If she tries to patronise we will shout her down” said a leader allied to the beneficiaries.
“The current invitation to the ‘local professionals’ (us) the elected people’s representatives of Lower Yatta Multipurpose and Yatta Kwavonza/Kanyoonyoo Marketing cooperative societies, and Lower Yatta Professionals are focused to solve the crusher problem once and for all – no more arm twisting. We don’t want fake promises” said a representative who spoke to COUNTY DIARY.
The invitation comes at a time when the community has lost patience and trust with the County Government on its continued insistence that the crusher will benefit it’s coffers
“I want to caution the attendees to be cautious not to participate in a brain washing activity at the expense of the local community. It’s crystal clear that the purported deliberations are only aimed at rubber stamping of an existing anology of community public participation that never was. It’s a farce” said a letter send to the expected participants slated to attend tomorrow’s rendezvous.
Daggers have been drawn btn H.E Ngilu and Lower Yatta professionals over what they have termed as “fake promises”
The LYP feel duped after amassing huge support for the GVN through the area MCA Mbaki and have requested for a meeting with the GVN in Nairobi on 18th June to openly declare lack of confidence with her leadership.
Key among their weighty grievances is the crusher planted in the heart of the rock rich ward where the Ngilu had directed the locals to form a SACCO which was to directly co-own the crusher with the County Government but the seasoned Kitui Governor seems to be making an about-turn on this promise, said an excerpt.
The LYP, after doing development audit in the 2 wards in the past 2 financial years (2017/18 and 2018/19), could not identify any single county project except the usual poor grading programs out of Ksh 22 Billion for the 2 Financial Years.
“We were duped” was how the beneficiaries termed the developing scenario over the crusher whose procuring process was a mystery.
“In this regard LYP have called for a major public rally on Saturday, 22nd June 2019 at Kwa Kilui market in Makusya Village to address the community concerns on the crusher project and most importantly to openly declare lack of confidence in Ngilu’s leadership” the excerpt seen by this reporter said.
