219 organized groups in Mwingi Central Sub-County today benefited from empowerment funds worth Sh.11,020,000 as per Governor Charity Ngilu’s earnest plan to better people’s livelihoods through wealth creation.
The groups of women, youth, bodaboda operators, and PLWDs were drawn from 35 villages within Central, Kivou, Mui, Nguni, Waita and Nuu Wards.
County Executive for Infrastructure Stephen Kyalo Maithya led the cheque issuance exercise assisted by Trade CO Fernandes Mbindu, Trade Director Fidelis Mwaniki, and Civic Education Assistant Director Shadrack Musyoki.
Mr. Maithya said the funds were meant to optimize the groups’ income-generating ventures in fulfillment of Governor Ngilu’s commitment to uplift women and youth across Kitui County.
“The funds we are loaning to these groups are meant to plug the financial gaps they encounter in running their business activities and consequently expand their profit margins,” said the county minister.
He noted that the revolving fund’s multiplication effect will in the long run help improve household incomes in the county as more residents engage in entrepreneurial activities.
“Say for instance a given beneficiary group has been doing poultry business. The funds will then enable them to expand their project, hence more earnings,” CEC Maithya expounded.
The residents thanked Governor Ngilu for implementing the empowerment program as per her campaign promise and vowed to reelect her in the August 9 General Election.
Meanwhile, the team intensified Governor Ngilu’s clarion call on the Kitui electoral and the larger Kamba community to join Azimio La Umoja presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga in his aspirations to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“All signs indicate a Raila presidency in the offing that’s why the Kamba community must make a conscious decision to rally behind him in to secure an integral stake in his administration,” CEC Maithya argued.
“By supporting Mr. Odinga’s quest for Kenya’s top leadership, the region will enjoy increased resources, more opportunities for professionals and shared prosperity with the rest of the country once he ascends to power,” he affirmed.
