Mutha gets 7M fully funded Maternity Wing at Kalambani

The Kitui county ministry of Health and Sanitation has received a fully equipped maternity wing worthy Ksh7million, at Kalambani dispensary, Mutha Ward in Kitui South Sub-county from Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB).

During the official handing over and opening of the facility, the CEC incharge of Health and Saniatation Dr Winnie Kitetu applauded CMMB for their dedication towards maternal and new born health in Kitui South.

“As the ministry of Health we are delighted for this maternity wing which has been officially handed over to us. This is a great milestone not only to the ministry but also to the residents of Kalambani, the neighboring centres and Kitui South atlarge,” Kitetu said.

Kitetu added that, the opening of the maternity wing in Mutha Ward will ensure that no should child die once born and no mother should die after delivering, which is inline with governor Ngilu’s desires for maternal and newborn health.

The CEC noted that the opening of the facility in the far flank part of Kitui county, guarantees equitable, accessible and affordable health care services to all Kitui residents despite their locality.

Kitetu, further reiterated that the ministry strives to bring healthcare services closer to the people notwithstanding the minimal budget allocation of 3.6billion to the ministry and the vastness of Kitui county.

She said “ I understand resources will never be enough, but as the minister I will strive to maximize what is within my disposal to ensure healthcare services are within everyone reach.

You remember this year the governor handed over an ambulance to Mutha healthcare facility? That ambulance, ought to offer its services to Kalambani people incase of an emergency.”

Speaking while addressing the Kalambani residents, the president of CMMB Mary Beth Powers, affirmed that her organization is committed to channel more resources and support to Kitui South for the sake of mother’s and child’s healthcare, because healthcare is about the people.

“Health is real about the people, it’s for the people and it’s the people who to provide the services and loving care, to patients who visit the facility,” said the president.

The president further thanked the ministry of Health and Sanitation for the cordial and mutual relationship it has demonstrated towards the success of the project, citing the commitment and dedication of the healthcare workers.

The Kalambani dispensary maternity wing has been equipped with resuscitators, oxygen concentrators, suction machine, delivery beds, phototherapy light unit among others.
