The petition by Hon Mwingi West Mp Nguna has been supported by the majority of legislators in the house.
Civil servants working within the kitui County whether at the National Government or County Government will earn HARDSHIP ALLOWANCE given to compatriots in other areas listed as Hardship areas.
Some areas currently listed as Hardship do not have harsh conditions and poor communication networks like some parts of Kitui, Makueni and Machakos.
The entire Kajiado County is listed as a Hardship area considering some areas like Kajiado North and West are covered by better infrastructure and communication network than Kitui.

If passed, staff in Kitui County Government and those from National Government working in Kitui will earn higher allowances which are 30% of the Basic Salary.
