MP Nguna sand dams galore a wake up call to harvest rain water as drought looms

Mwingi West MP Hon. Charles Nguna (CNN) escalated and sustainable sand dams projects in Mwingi West could be the evasive solution to water shortages in the semi-arid region, the Wiper MP has said.

Speaking when he inspected the last sand dams including Wendano wa Mbitini, Mathyakani and Kitumbi, the MP reiterated the need to harvest water and store water during downpours.

I am partnering with like-minded players including the National Irrigation Board (NIB), African Sand Dams Foundation (ASDF) from Germany and my own benevolent personal donations.

This is towards ensuring that more than 5,000 people have access to water through the pans and sand dams.

These water resevours are for use by both humans and livestock. Over 9,000 residents will eventually benefit from more than 50 sand dams projected for completion this year” added Nguna.

Meanwhile the MP, during his out and about tour sensitized residents the need to conserve water.

On the Covid-19 pandemic, Nguna said;

“I am taking the advantage of the Coronavirus pandemic recess to inspect and launch more projects including road grading and schools upgrades in Mwingi West.

I urge my people to adhere to Government and health directives to avert this scourge” said the popular youthful leader.
